5 Reasons You Should Live In The Moment
Just live in the moment.
Sounds easy right?
With overwhelming jobs, pressure to live a certain way and a desire to reach certain goals in life, we rarely ever ACTUALLY live in the moment.
We’re either telling ourselves there is something wrong with us because our friends are all married and churning out children like it’s gone out of fashion or we’re regretting that time we had a one night stand and feel that it has defined our life and we’re doomed.
At NOW we are great believers in stopping and smelling the roses. As people, we spend way too much time thinking about the past or planning for the future.
Here is why we think you should live in the moment:
You only have control of the present moment
When you think about it, this one is a no-brainer. You never know what life is going to through at you and no matter how much you plan, you can’t plan for everything.
You have the choice in the present moment. The choice to embrace it. Loathe it. Ignore it. You have the choice.
Overthinking the future, and past, are well known causes of stress.
An element of stress is important for us, but excess stress only pushes us further out of the moment than we were before.
Mindfulness has gained huge exposure in recent years as our way of life burdens our mental and physical health. Whilst you might not have all day to meditate, consider making small changes and taking 5 minutes to just breath it all in.
Plans don’t always work out how you imagined
Always thought you would meet your future partner at 23, get married at 27, have kids by 29 and a dog named Lucky by 31? Well, let us tell you, it’s unlikely to happen exactly like that!
Life throws curveballs everyday and no matter how hard you try to plan, things will always change.
Refer back to our first point – you only have control of NOW so make your choice.
Life is short
We know this. We all have personal and unique experiences that have taught us this lesson.
You won’t be disappointed
Living in the moment is a sure fire way to manifest happiness in your life.
When you don’t have dead set plans for the future, you can’t be disappointed if they don’t happen. Everything then becomes a pleasant surprise, an exciting adventure or a lesson learnt.
