Everyone wants to be happy.

Not everyone knows how to get there.

Do you ever look at someone and wonder ‘how do they do that?’

If you spend enough time looking at happy people, there are clear themes in what they do and what allows them to be happy.

Find balance in their lives

This is crucial. Especially the balance between work and personal life.

Work too much and you burn yourself out.

Socialise too much and you get behind on work and begin to worry.

Try to compartmentalise your life in such a way that when you are working you are efficient, that way when you are enjoying life you don’t need to worry.

Don’t sweat the small stuff

Ever looked back on a situation where you were seriously anxious and yet it all turned out ok? This happens almost all the time.

Don’t fret about small things that can be solved easily. Identify the problem, identify the solution and move on. If it’s out of your control then leave it. You can’t do everything and you are not responsible for everything either.

Surround themselves with other happy people

You might feel bad thinking it, but sometimes your friends drag you down.

Of course, you want to be there for your friends and help them in their lives. But make sure you get a dose of happiness out of your relationships too.

Don’t end up giving a lot for nothing in return, make sure you surround yourself with other happy people!

Accept themselves

Something we believe wholeheartedly is one of the foundations of happiness.

Until you accept yourself, you cannot find your way in the world. You cannot love others without loving yourself. You won’t be able to find genuine happiness until you are entirely accepting of yourself.

Be unapologetically you. Accept it. And don’t let anyone make you feel otherwise.

See challenges as opportunities

We all face challenges in life. In work, personal life, as a society or faith.

The happiest people, however, do not see these challenges as ‘the end of the world’ or impossible. They see the opportunity in the challenge.

Opportunity can come in all shapes and sizes. You may be blessed to meet something interesting when facing the challenge; you may learn a skill you didn’t know you had; you may be able to turn the challenge into a great social change; or you might simply make someone smile.

Whatever it is, there is opportunity in every challenge.

Live in the moment

Living in the moment is a sure fire way to manifest happiness in your life.

When you don’t have dead set plans for the future, you can’t be disappointed if they don’t happen. Everything then becomes a pleasant surprise, an exciting adventure or a lesson learnt.

You can only control the Now.

So seize it.

Grab it with two hands and live.
